Free Type or iType?
The Free Type™ rasterizer is an open-source font engine that is adaptable,
but is also burdened by limited capacities. The iType® font engine from Monotype Imaging is a scalable font rendering subsystem based on the industry-standard TrueType® and OpenType® font formats. Designed to work in mobile phones, set-top boxes, interactive TVs, console displays, portable media players, camcorders and other memory-constrained devices, the iType font engine brings the benefits of scalable type and high-quality multimedia font display to the embedded environment.
Monotype Imaging offers fonts that have been optimized for rasterized use for the world’s major languages, including Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Hindi and Arabic. iType customers have the security of
knowing that the fonts and the rasterizer are not only of the highest quality
but are optimized to work together.
Included in the iType license is a sub-license
from Apple, Inc. for its delta hinting patent. In addition, Monotype Imaging offers extensive warranty and indemnifications, all backed by
Monotype Imaging Inc.
